BW Polishing
Identifying Grits
5 micron grit is green, 1 micron is pink, and 0.3 micron is blue.
Procedure Notes - 9/12/2018
Jim noticed that one corner of the bundle I am polishing is rounded. The bundle must not have been straight enough when the rounding occurred.
He said that I should not have the fibers at the center of the wheel because the axle sticks out there. I should keep the bundle away from the axle.
He saw some holes in the 0.3 micron grit and said those resulted from some sort of dust between the wheel and the sandpaper. Another possibility is that the glue was uneven where the holes were.
Better cleaning could prevent dust from coming between the wheel and the sandpaper. The wheel and the platform in front of it should both be clean. The sandpaper itself has to be clean too.
I should think of a better way to put on the new sandpaper. I should probably wear different gloves when I put the new paper on. I have been putting large gloves over my medium gloves when I remove sandpaper and clean the wheel. The outer gloves are to protect the inner gloves from ethanol. When I finish cleaning, I should take both the outer and the inner gloves off and put on other gloves for handling the new sandpaper.
